The Fighting Fifty is a group of Democrats running in traditionally uncontested Republican districts in Georgia. Although Georgia is a battleground state, the legislature is dominated by Republicans passing laws that most Georgians oppose.
We believe every race should be contested, so we provide our candidates with the tools, community, and resources needed for strong campaigns. The name reflects the 48 Republican State Representatives who ran unopposed in 2022, limiting Democratic engagement.
To recruit, train, and support Democrats running for Georgia State House in traditionally Republican districts.
Candidates in red districts struggle to raise money and gain support, as most resources focus on "flippable seats." We believe in strengthening political infrastructure in rural Georgia, recognizing the importance of these races to the Democratic Party's success.
The Fighting Fifty was created because Democratic voters are more likely to show up to vote when they have a candidate to support. By fielding Democratic candidates in traditionally unopposed Republican districts, we're giving Democratic voters a reason to turn out. If each of our candidates secures just 500 additional Democratic votes, that's 25,000 votes that could help state-wide and federal candidates up-ballot. In perspective: Joe Biden won Georgia by only 12,000 votes in 2020. Our success comes from the brave Democrats who have stepped up to represent their communities and fight for the future of the Democratic Party.
We make Republican incumbents work for their seats and force them to spend their resources instead of casually walking into office without a fight. By forcing them to campaign we make them defend their extremist right-wing beliefs to their constituents.
The Fighting Fifty equips candidates with the tools, resources, and community support needed for a successful campaign. We guide them from qualification through regular meetings with prominent speakers. Our volunteers and donors help by writing postcards, knocking on doors, and fundraising for these Democrats.
